FUTURE YOUTH ABOUND
2015
28th SEA Games
Singapore
In celebration of the 28th SEA Games, I teamed up with Dawn Tam, community partner Artbeatz, to create a beautiful sculptural piece titled Future Youth Abound.
This artwork was part of the Torch Up! Art Installation series, which involved local artists collaborating with different community groups to produce 30 sport-inspired structures that led up to the official opening of the Games.
Future Youth Abound was part of the first batch of Torch Up! art installations that was launched on 7th March 2015 at the One TeamSG Rally event.
Featuring a spunky youth, Future Youth Abound is a celebration of youth and our future as held in their hands. The youth’s face resembles a globe and on his head are kinetic figures bearing flags, suggesting that even as we celebrate the individual, progress and success is never achieved alone but always with a team. As Singaporeans, we celebrate our unique identity, and as global citizens, we pride in our partnership with friends in neighbouring countries as key to our next phase of growth.
Future Youth Abound was created at Synergraphic comprising designers, engineers and skilled workers, over an intense period of a month. Artbeatz led the community engagement sessions with CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ Primary and Secondary School and My First Skool@ Marine Terrace, where approximately 90 students expressed their visions of sports and Singapore by painting on metal sheets which were then incorporated into the final artwork.
